From Gary to the Gorp...to the Snake River

On our way out of Idaho Falls, Gary the car started making a noise that sounded like a jet engine flying overhead. We just managed to coast him two hundred yards to the Subaru dealership, then signed enough papers so they let us drive one of their new cars off the lot, waved goodbye to Gary forever, and headed straight for the river.

We met up with Zac's uncle Jeff, who immediately dubbed our new Subaru a 'good old raisins and peanuts', (gorp) car. Well, if the shoe fits...

Jeff's guided on the rivers of eastern Idaho for eighteen years and was kind enough to take us out on his driftboat -- and give us some much-needed fly fishing lessons -- not just once, but twice. We floated Henry's Fork and the south fork of the Snake River where Zac caught a pile of fish. Even I managed to get a couple in the boat each day, which I attribute completely to Jeff's skill as a guide and teacher. But it didn't even matter what the count was at the end of the day, because the river and the weather were beautiful.

Jeff and Jenifer also put us up for three nights in their home in Driggs, Idaho, a log cabin Jeff built himself. The view out the front room windows is of the Grand Tetons and the back butts up against National Forest land. Most evenings, they take a beer to the porch and listen to the birds sing their night songs. What a life.
