A River Runs Through It

We drove through the Big Hole Valley to get to Missoula, Montana's most liberal city, and home of the University of Montana. Zac and I set up camp and then headed into town to walk along the river and window shop. I doubt it comes as a surprise to most of you that it was stinking hot.

After just one night, we left Montana's second-biggest city and headed to one of Idaho's smallest: Salmon. For just about as long as I've known him, Zac's been trying to temper my city-girl sensibilities by using Salmon as an example of heaven on earth. This visit has been a long time coming.

After a brief stop, a visit with some more old friends, and a couple of dark beers, we headed on down the road to Stanley, Idaho, one of my dad's favorite pieces of sky.

We attempted to catch some live music at a little fishing lodge near Stanley, but showed up after the party was over, so we ate a couple of cold hamburgers and returned to set up our mobile living room, complete with two La-Z-Boy recliners and a mini-fridge.
