Up the Creek Without a Pole

We left Mitt-fest and drove west into Utah, then north to Heber City and past the Jordanelle Dam into the Wasatch National Forest. Everything was still covered in snow, but we found a river down low and set up camp for the next couple of days.

The next morning, after Zac (who wakes up before me every single day and starts the stove) made up his delicious pour-overs, we headed to Mirror Lake for a hike, surprising some wildlife along the way.

We were wandering along, watching the fish rise to the surface and the fishermen cast for them, when we came across an inlet where the fish were packed so tightly we just couldn't resist anymore.

Zac left me on one side of the bank with the camera. He sneaked his way up and across and down again, crawled to the overhang, stuck his arm into the water and proceeded to tickle the hell out of some fish. They're slippery little buggers, but he finally got one out of the water for a photo-op.

Zac released him back into the wild to hide from the pole fishermen another day and we trotted back to the car for some dry clothes and a celebratory beer!

  1. Zac is starting out right: bringing breakfast. I fear there will be no living with the two of you after you've seen the world like this. You may settle into a nomad existence, what could compete with these delights? On the other hand, you won't be scared about anything. Awesome!
